Every June long weekend in Western Australia, I head down south to the beautiful hamlet of Denmark, near Albany on the south coast. The Festival of Voice is on, and it is a weekend of the best of the local, state and national singers, songwriters, choral groups, poets combined with some of the best food and wine you are likely to find anywhere.
Summerhouse was performing - we have performed at nearly all the DFOVs since the inception in 2004, and a few of us have performed at every one of the festivals in some sort of guise.
We stay in a house big enough to fit all 10 of us, plus hangers-on, either husbands/wives/partners/children/friends. Often there have been mattresses on the floor to accommodate all sleeping bodies.
